The Friends Committee on National Legislation is a Quaker-based lobbying organization working for peace, justice, and environmental sustainability. They asked me to design their FY 2025 annual report, covering the end of the 118th Congress and the opening of the 119th.
Our Resilient Democracy
The theme “Our Resilient Democracy” reflects FCNL’s conviction that moral courage is contagious. The design follows from that: straightforward, grounded, not grim. The report opens with a Lincoln quote set against an archival photograph of the Lincoln Memorial under construction, framing the current moment as one in a long series of moments when democracy has been tested.
Annual reports for advocacy organizations do more than summarize finances. They are tools for donor retention, volunteer recruitment, and coalition-building. Every design choice was made with those purposes in mind.
A feature section covers ten years of FCNL’s Advocacy Teams, a program that trains community members to lobby Congress directly. Pull quotes, archival imagery, and a timeline of legislative wins give that story room to land.
The report also covers program financials, governance, land acknowledgment, and donor recognition, formatted to be readable without sacrificing warmth.
