Beth Am Synagogue in Baltimore asked me to design their High Holy Days booklet for 5786/2025, covering the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services.

The High Holy Days are the most attended services of the Jewish year. The booklet needed to serve a wide range of worshippers: people who attend every year, people returning after years away, and people for whom this may be their first time.

The 40-page booklet includes service guides for both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, clergy bios, general guidelines for the congregation, and information about community programming for the season. Readability was the first concern. The design needed to be clear and composed, appropriate to the gravity of the occasion, and accessible to someone unfamiliar with the liturgy.

Liturgical design works within traditions that carry real weight. The High Holy Days mark a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal. The design follows from that.
