The Musco Center for the Arts at Chapman University asked me to design their 2018-19 season brochure, announcing a season headlined by Plácido Domingo and introducing several new programming categories.
A season brochure has to move tickets and communicate what a place feels like. The Musco Center is one of California’s finest concert halls. The design needed to carry that without becoming stiff.
The 2018-19 season introduced new programming categories, including a chamber music series and expanded educational events. Each needed its own identity while staying cohesive with the larger brand.
The cover leads with a full-bleed performance photograph anchored by bold serif typography. Inside, section openers use a triangular geometric motif drawn from the Musco Center’s architectural details. Each programming category gets its own color accent within a unified typographic grid. The type system pairs a classical serif for headlines with a humanist sans for body text, readable across age ranges and appropriate to the context.
